first, you only use water - and when there is no more colour in the water, then you put on the care balm that usually comes with the colour.

Im pretty sure that you don't use shampoo. If the instructions say to then do it but if they don't just use water by itself.

Unless your directions say to wash (some highlights say to use shampoo to stop the highlighting process), then you just rinse it all out and condition.
